Club gets ahead by getting a hat

The speaker at our September meeting was Veronika Lazarenko on a subject dear to all our hearts—hats. As you can see there were plenty of hats in evidence. Veronika took us through the origins and social function of headwear and its evolution through the ages. We learned about the distinction between hats and fascinators and between hat-makers and milliners. Veronika is self-taught, having decided to have a go at making a hat for her own wedding and getting hooked from there. She brought in various types of hat for us to look at, along with some of the tools and raw materials. Thanks to Veronika and all the elegant coves who joined us.
