Punt, Picnic ‘n’ Plunge
On Saturday the New Sheridan Club had its annual "Punt, Picnic 'n' Plunge" trip to Oxford, in which we meet at the Magdalen Bridge Boatyard, punt upriver to a picnic spot, do some picnicking, then punt back before repairing to the pub. We were a smallish group this time—only three punts' worth—possibly because the date coincided with the Tweed Run, but the weather was ideal and a good time was had by all. In recent years the river has been in flood, creating a current that is hard to punt against, but this year the water was quite low—so much so that the most heavily laden boat in our flotilla couldn't make it through our initial route without running aground, so had to return to the boatyard and take an alternative route. And I'm surprised to say that no one fell in (that's the the "plunge" part of "Punt, Picnic 'n' Plunge"). I'm sure this will just mean more watery carnage next time. Instead we just had competitive Champagne cork popping. Thanks to all who came along.
