London Hat Walk

NSC contingent at the 2019 London Hat Walk

Formerly part of London Hat Week, this annual event is just a chance to parade around town showing off your finest titfer in the company of likeminded petasophiles.* For the third time the event will be happening simultaneously in more than one location in the world—last year there are 16 hat walks signed up, in Taiwan, Romania, Oslo, Barcelona, the US, four cities in Australia and more. So it is really a World Hat Walk this time. While London Hat Week is no longer happening, responsibility for the World Hat Walk has passed to Tatiana Ashakova in Berlin.

The London walk is being organised by Liz Waldy, following a route they have used before, starting at Tate Modern and finishing near Tower Bridge. It’s a lot of fun, with all manner of hat-wearers joining in, from Chappist traditionalists to makers of outré assemblages.

Dress Code: Headwear eye-catching enough to stop traffic!

*OK, I made that up, from the Greek petasos, a specific kind of broad-brimmed felt hat worn in the ancient world.
