The Chap Grand Flaneur Walk

  • Courtyard Wine Cellars Covent Garden London, England, WC2E 8RB United Kingdom (map)

The Chap magazine’s sixth annual saunter, celebrating the lost art of flâneurie—ambling through the city with no particular destination or purpose in mind, simply to observe human life and be observed in turn. While there isn’t a structure as such, there are, erm, episodes, in that the mob tends to lurch from one watering hole to another (assuming they’ll have us, which they won’t always). Sometimes there is a final destination planned, some years not. (This year not, I believe.) The event usually kicks off at the statue of Beau Brummell on Jermyn Street, but that has moved to a bar in Covent Garden, where I think they have offered to hand out free drinks. Feel free to join and/or leave the group at any point (if you can find them).
