Following The Chap magazine’s fifth annual saunter this spring, Gustav Temple, the magazine’s editor, seems to have decided to make it a twice-yearly event from now on, hence this second 2025 date. The idea is to celebrate the lost art of flâneurie—ambling through the city with no particular destination or purpose in mind, simply to observe human life and be observed in turn. While there isn’t a structure as such, there are, erm, episodes, in that the mob tends to lurch from one watering hole to another (assuming they’ll have us, which they won’t always). One year there was a final destination, a reception at the Camden Watch Company’s HQ, another time a gathering at Vout-O-Reenees, but recently there has been no specific geographic goal. The event kicks off at the statue of Beau Brummell on Jermyn Street. Feel free to join and/or leave the group at any point (if you can find them).
